Welcome Hocking College Students!
We are looking forward to hosting you this fall at Forfar Field Station. To better prepare you for your trip, please read the following information:
Passport: A valid Passport is required to enter the Bahamas. Passports typically take 3 to 8 weeks to receive after completing your passport application. If you haven't applied for a passport and the current date is within 8 weeks of the trip departure date, you will need to do so IMMEDIATELY and have it expedited to ensure it will arrive in time. If your passport expires within 6 months of the last day you will be in the Bahamas, you can be denied entry into the country. Please confirm that your passport doesn't expire within this time frame. Make a few copies of your passport (and any necessary visas, if applicable), and put them in safe places that are stored separately from your original. We suggest leaving one at home with a friend or family member, and uploading one to the cloud.
Flights: The best and cheapest time to purchase a flight is at least 6 weeks before your travel departure date (if you wait past that, your flights could be substantially more). You will need to arrive in Nassau no later than 1 PM on 10/30/2018 and depart from Nassau no earlier than 12 PM on 12/6/2018. Confirm your travel dates with IFS or Hocking faculty/staff before you book your flights.
During the 2016-2017 season we had to reschedule the arrival of the Fall BEAT group due to Hurricane Matthew. We strongly encourage that you purchase travel insurance for your flights and/or research the rescheduling/cancellation policy of the airline in which you choose to fly. Delta and American Airlines have frequent flights from Columbus to Nassau and may be a good option for your trip. We do not recommend booking your flights with third-party services such as Expedia, Travelocity, etc. as these services have very strict cancellation/rescheduling policies.
After you have purchased your tickets please send your flight information/itinerary to firstname.lastname@example.org or provide the information on the online registration form.
If you arrive in Nassau the day/night before 10/30/2018, be aware that sleeping in the airport is not permitted. This website has some good information about the airport and suggests Orange Hill Inn as it is fairly close to the airport. Unfortunately, New Providence doesn't have budget hotels and there are very limited options near the airport. Traffic on New Providence especially in Nassau is very bad and it will take a long time to get from downtown to the airport and cost $30-40 for a cab ride (one way). You could also look at Airbnb.com as there are a number of options that are relatively inexpensive.
If you have any questions about flights, required forms, or anything else pertaining to your trip, please send your questions to email@example.com or call us at (614) 268-9930.

Please complete the PADI - Medical questionnaire by writing out the word "YES" or "NO" -- don't leave any blanks, and don't use "Y" or "N" in place of "YES" or "NO". Regardless of your answers on the PADI - Medical form, every student is required to have a doctors signature due to the remoteness of Andros.
